History:
The Bloomington Public Library is a center for culture, art, and communication for the residents of Bloomington, Illinois and surrounding areas. It was founded in 1857 as a single-room library run on book donations. Later, in 1887, a land donation was made by Sarah B. Withers and a two-story building is built and consequently named the Withers Library.
In its 161 years in operation, the library has grown from a one-room donation-run library to a two-story hub of Bloomington culture. The library is now on its sixth bookmobile and is in plans to expand or relocate.
