Illinois State university is home of the redbirds located in Bloomington Normal, Illinois. Illinois State University offers a diverse selection of undergraduate academic programs, including those spanning a number of academic disciplines. Illinois State University affirms and encourages community and a respect for differences by fostering an inclusive environment characterized by cultural understanding, ethical behavior, and social justice. Diversity is very important within anything whether it’s a job or within the education system. Having diversity within a school provides the students a cultural experience. 

Athletes

The Illinois State for over 100  years has practiced the tradition of excellence sportsmanship and equality. Illinois State University mission statement is "The Illinois State University Athletics Department is committed to academic and athletic excellence as it prepares today's student-athletes to become tomorrow's leaders.” Illinois State was founded in 1857 in Normal, Illinois. The enrollment is 20,272 the school colors are white and red. The school mascot is Reggie the redbird and the affiliation is NCAA/Division 1.

Fraternities and Sororities

Fraternity and Sorority Life support Illinois State fraternities and sororities and their governing councils by assisting with academic achievement, leadership development, and community service and membership recruitment. The fraternity and sorority has a staff Alex Snowden, Coordinator ,Alanna Hill, Senior Specialist, Wendy, Support Staff.Sororities have recruitment every September. The woman interested on joining different sororities go on a shuttle to take a formal tour of all 10 of the sorority houses. In total there are over between fraternity and sororities there are 35 chapters. There are currently 17 inter/national fraternities, 5 of which are Historically Black fraternities, 14 inter/national sororities, 2 of which Historically Black sororities. Many of the members are also leaders on campus and in a wide range of student organizations and athletic teams.

What is a Fraternity or Sorority?

Fraternity and sorority is a bound together by friendship, brotherhood, and sisterhood who share the same common goals and aspirations. The members of the organizations share their knowledge, interest and experiences together as well as common values. The brotherhood and sisterhood that is formed between the members helps them to develop stronger and creative leadership that leads to success. What fraternities and sororities have in common is their interest in enhancing your educational experience by emphasizing intellectual, interpersonal, and social development. The ideals of lifelong friendship, sound education, campus and community service, and social interaction are what fraternity and sorority members strive to live by every day.

Why do people join Fraternities and Sororities?

Greek life began in 1776, when students began to realize that they needed to discuss current events outside of the classroom. Greek societies have since taken on a broader role to develop the moral, mental, and social skills of their members. Illinois State University's fraternal community, founded in 1967, it provides members with academic, social, leadership and educational opportunities that contribute to a well-rounded university experience.
