One in five people in America don't have enough money for food and spend every day hungry. The town of Bloomington-Normal takes their part in trying to feed the hungry and help those in need. Blo-No makes efforts to help in many ways and the Midwest Food Bank is one of those who make a huge contribution to helping people in the community. If you're looking for a place to volunteer , the Midwest Food Bank is a great place. The MFB collects food and donates to agencies such as food pantries, shelters, and the soup kitchens, who then give the food to people in need. If you wish to learn more about the Midwest Food Bank, you've come to the right page.

Everything you need to know about the Midwest Food Bank

History and Goals

The Midwest Food Bank was started in 2003. Their goal is to provide food to all those in need and help them through hard times. The MFB donates food to those affected by natural disasters and to the less fortunate who don't have enough to eat. However, the Midwest Food Bank does not donate to individuals or families, only to pantries or other organizations, who then distribute the food to those in need. According to their website (http://www.midwestfoodbank.org/) their food reaches over 500,000 people each month.

There are 5  MFB warehouses including three in Illinois, one in Indiana and one in Georgia. All workers at the food bank are volunteers and do not receive any sort of pay.    I myself volunteered at the Midwest Food Bank located in Bloomington for a while. All of the volunteers I ever worked with and met had such love and care for those in need, and wanted nothing more then to help them.

Taking Part

You could take part in their work by donating time, money, or food. All money that's donated is used to purchase more food to give to those who need it. If you donate time and become a volunteer, you'll likely do things like put together disaster relief boxes given out during natural disasters.  If you choose to donate food, obviously it is just distributed out to those who need it.

Giving Hope to Others

I talked to a man I know, who lives about 2 hours away, whose house got leveled from a tornado about a year ago. He was telling me about how he lost absolutely everything and had no idea what to do. His entire town was torn to shreds and they had nothing left. Then they got a huge delivery of 'Disaster Relief' packages from the Midwest Food Bank, and it brightened everyone's mood and lifted their spirits.

The Midwest Food Bank accomplishes exactly what they aim to do which is provide for and help those in need. Everyone I've ever talked to that has either volunteered at the MFB or received some kind of help from them has been nothing but beyond thankful for all that they do. They help out all of the community by adding positivity and by giving hope to those who are feeling doubtful.

To contribute to the Midwest Food Bank's work you can contact them by email, phone call, or even just by taking a trip over and talking to someone in charge.
