Bloomington-Normal Neighborhoods provides information about neighborhoods and historical districts within the twin cities.

There are 88 neighborhood districts between the twin cities, with 58 in Bloomington[1] and 30 in Normal[2]. There are 9 historic districts, with 5 in Bloomington and 4 in Normal, however only 6 are federally recognized for their cultural and historical value for the nation at large rather than just to the local community.[3] Some of the oldest homes in Bloomington-Normal were built in the 1850s, the majority having been built in the 1920s and later.

Eagles' Landing

As you go forward on your left is the Vinewood and across from that is eagles landing. Eagles’ landing is             are duplexes that built in a loop. They also have new sidewalk that goes around too. However there isn’t             much diversity in it. Most of the population are Indians and the nickname for the neighborhood is Little               India. Neighbors can be very friendly and nice but however aren’t willing to help others and often keeps             to themselves. It is safe because the neighborhood is small and in a loop and as for the lawn that is not               much and very easy to mow. When people trick or treat though there isn’t much to go around so kids                   would go to other neighborhood. One of the neighbors is a cop though and may ticket if you drive fast                 in the neighborhood. The duplexes are actually quite nice though. Their fireplaces are actually electronic             which can simply be turned on with a flick of a switch. The ceilings is quit high so it gives the duplex a                   feeling that it is big. Overall the neighborhood is good and neighbors are nice but conservative and if                   you are a person who is antisocial and want a cheap safe environment then this neighborhood is for                     you.

Holiday Knolls

Located nicely in the center of this large town, Holiday Knolls subdivision has a lot to offer. The people in the neighborhood are amazing. I have not had any problems with any of my neighbors and don't foresee any in the future. This neighborhood isn't exactly a rich neighborhood. It is older and a bit worn in some places. The lots in Holiday Knolls are all pretty fair. It is definitely a great spot to settle down and raise a family. Within walking distance of any home in the subdivision you can find most any necessity you may need. To the north of Holliday Knolls you have many business. some of which include Advanced Auto Parts, Burger King, Dick Van Dyke Appliance World, along with the Lakewood Plaza just across Clearwater. To the east is Stevenson Elementary School along with its park, tennis courts, and baseball field. To the south and wrapping around the west there is a service drive. This has many more small businesses including Pizza Ranch and Eastland Companion Animal Hospital. Also just across Rout 9 there are many other stores and restaurants. This older neighborhood is a great place for a family with children. The neighborhood is typically a quiet neighborhood with not a lot of disturbances. There have been a few reports of break-ins over the past few years. Hopefully that will be solved with the new neighborhood association being created. The Stevenson Neighborhood Association held its first meeting in august of 2015. It was founded by Pat Walsh and her granddaughter after a Girl Scouts project. The Stevenson Neighborhood Associations first priority is setting up a neighborhood watch. This task is being led by Adam Bradford. Future goals for this association is to have enough participation to be able to hold neighborhood events. Some of the events being talked about are bike safety night for the kids in the neighborhood, a Halloween themed block party, neighborhood Christmas caroling, and many more. As of now the association is covering all of Holiday Knolls from Veterans to Hershey and Clearwater to Rout 9. Depending on the amount of participation the association may need to break into two or even four organizations. If you live in Holliday Knolls and would like to help or have any comments/concerns you want to bring up to the association there is a Facebook page you may go to. It is under Stevenson Neighborhood Association.

North Meadows Village Mobile Home Park Normal, Illinois

I moved to North Meadows in August of 2009. I was excited because I figured this was a new start for my kids and me. The positive is that the elementary school and the junior high school are Parkside Elementary and Parkside Junior High. These two schools are wonderful with the kids. Unfortunately, if your kids are in high school they will have to be bused all the way out to Normal Community High School. Hope no emergencies because public transportation doesn't have a route out that way. The location of this park is great because you are close to everything. Now for the negative: November of 2009 my purse was stolen from my vehicle as I was taking groceries in to my house. I called the police to make a report and the police officer that came out here said that they frequent this park. Since my moving in here I have seen home invasions, gun shots, fights, domestic violence issues, lots of drunk people unable to control themselves, and much more. Not to mention that alot of the kids here are bullies and believe me when I say that the "apple doesn't fall far from the tree" on that one. This park has been through four park managers and now on the fifth since I moved in. I think that some of the managers did what they could with what they have, but you need a strong backbone which in this case would be the "owners" to accomplish anything. The owners of this park in my opinion do not care about this park like they should. The upkeep is horrible and the roads are in need of repair. In order to get anything done you have to wait what feels like years. I do have to say that they are good about one thing RAISING OUR RENT.

Old Farm Lake, Subdivision

You will know you are there when you see the windmill sitting on the side of Oakland Ave. My wife and I looked all over Bloomington-Normal when we moved here almost three years ago. We kept returning to the east side of Bloomington and feel in love with the Old Farm Lake neighborhood. We live in the older section which is very quiet with mature trees. There are two man made ponds, that surprisingly has a lot of fish in them. There are sidewalks around the lakes which make for a nice walk. The smaller pond has a fountain and a playground for the kids. We are allowed to take a canoe or any type of non-motorized boat onto the lakes. But there is no swimming allowed. The one bad thing I can think of is being so close to the airport. I have gotten used to the sound, so I do not even notice it very much, and it is not like it is O’hare, there are not to many flights landing and taking of daily. I have been in a lot of the fancier neighborhoods around town and in some really expensive homes, but I still would not trade where I live for them.

Vinewood, Houses

As you go straight through Airport road on your left is a townhouse neighborhood called Eagle's                            Landing and on the right is Vinewood. It is a newly developed area. It is right near Grove Elementary                    and Normal Community High School. It is a nice area and the neighbors are lovely. Behind the houses                is a beautiful small sparkling lake. There is heard to be small fishes there. So often you would see some                people with their fishing tools and hooks going fishing. As for the houses they are good and well built.                  All of them have nice fireplaces however they run on gasoline and are very hard to light. The lawns                      behind the houses are quit big and very spacious. There are a lot of weeds that grow.  There is also a                    new sidewalk built around the neighborhood in a loop so that way all the kids can go around and ride                  their bikes. The neighborhood is also filled with a good crowd so there is no trouble or anything that                      goes around. Plus it is a good place to raise children since it is quite safe with no gangs or anything.                        Every now then the neighborhood would have barbeque parties and invite everyone around them                        which can be quite nice. This neighbor is very friendly and is good place to live in.

  • I live in a dump called Woodridge townhomes, but the folks who live there call it "Hoodridge”...No points for guessing why.
  • Welllllll I live on College and its awesome.
  • I just moved into Woodridge townhomes and so far it's not too bad. I live in first few complexes of the neighborhood and apart from having my car broken into by someone who doesn't live there it's great. I haven't had any problems with any of the appliances and the only difficulty that the tenants before me had was a small problem with the air conditioning unit. The owners of the neighborhood always have the yard crews out so it doesn't look like trash. So overall I think Woodridge is just fine.
  • Well I think I live in one of the roughest neighborhoods in the city. I live on west mulberry and oak st. This area is not that great. drug addicts and prositutes walking the streets day and night making all kinds of crazy noises some time it's impossible to get any sleep. The corner behind my apartment is west market and oak st. there is this apartment complex where a bunch of young kids (teenagers) hangout and almost every weekend the is some type of fight going on. These are the things i have actually seen myself . My personal opinion not a good area to raise young children.

I just moved to Green Woods trailer park and i have to admit i was a little nervous at first living in a trailer park but after just a few nights there i realized its a good place to live. The park itself is off the beaten path so theres not alot if really any non-residential traffic. They park also has security cameras and is a very quiet neighborhood All the people in the area are real friendly but at the same time everyone minds their own buisness. The mantnince staff lives there and are especially friendly as well.
