History

The Normal Public Library began in 1935 as a humble Reading Room on North Street, boasting a collection of just 300 donated volumes.

Funding for the library came from the Works Project Administration as part of Roosevelt’s New Deal.

After bouncing from place to place, the library settled in its current location on College Avenue in 1973. An addition followed in 1993.
