About the Coliseum
The U.S. Cellular Coliseum is an almost new, 37 million dollar venue that holds around eight thousand people. It is very clean, well designed, and located in downtown Bloomington. During the winter they host the local semi professional hockey team, the Bloomington Blaze, and during football season they host the local semi professional football team, the Bloomington Extreme. Also, throughout the year, the coliseum has a variety of concerts, and many of them are big name acts! There is also a very nice restaurant and bar located at the south end of the building allowing people to dine while watching both their favorite sporting event and what is going on at the Pepsi Ice Center, which is an ice rink connected to the building. The Coliseum has also recently hosted WWE professional wrestling and have been known to host quite a few roller derby and MMA cage fighting events as well. There is always something going on at the coliseum to draw the residents of the Bloomington-Normal area and people of ALL AGES. They even plan to expand the venue more in spring of 2012 by adding a semi-pro basketball team called the Central Illinois Drive. Many of the events that are hosted at the coliseum are sponsored by Frontier Communications.
