Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection (Boise, Eagle, Meridian, Kuna, and Ada County) - Household Hazardous Waste is in every house. This material can be hazardous if it contains any of the following: Flammable/Combustible, Explosive/Reactive, Corrosive, Toxic. Examples include paints, gasoline, pesticides, cleaners, peroxides, acids, paint related materials, flares, weed killers, propane, fire extinguishers, mercury, batteries, fluorescent lights, tv’s and many more products. Throwing these items in the garbage is not the proper way to dispose of this waste. Throwing any of these items into the garbage allows the material to end up in the landfill which is not environmentally friendly.

Household hazardous waste (HHW) collection began as a one-day event in 1989. By 1996 the program grew to a two-day event which serviced more than 3500 households. In 1998 Ada County opened a facility at the landfill. The facility is approximately 5000 square feet and is open on Fridays and Saturdays to the public. There are now mobile sites throughout Ada County including Boise, Meridian, Eagle, and Kuna where the public can drop off their waste. In 1999, Ada County's Hazardous Material Collection Program received national recognition by being selected as the "Best New Collection Program at the Local Level" by the North America Hazardous Material Management Association. Stericycle is currently the the company contracted out by Ada County and the City of Boise to operate the hazardous waste program.
