The Sapphire Bar & Grill is recent addition to the downtown bar scene in Boise. The bar took the place of Cool Hand Lukes restaurant. Cool Hand Lukes played on the historic appeal of the building and Boise’s “western” location. Fortunately, the new owners kept the character offered by the old building with their “Sapphire” spin. It is a smaller downtown bar that allows patrons to have conversation and drinks, in comparison to some of the louder “club” bars nearby. Every weekend offers live local music without a cover charge. If you stop by before 10pm you can order from their grill. The menu includes your usual bar options such as hot wings and french fries to soups and a pretty amazing grilled chicken caesar salad. Drink specials vary based on the day of the week, but each night a bucket of Budweiser is ten bucks. Cheap drinks are always important to the finically restrained college student. In addition to the cheap drink, Sapphire offers a pretty impressive selection of draft beer, compared to what you would find at a regular bar. If after a couple of drinks the need to dance and not have conversation hits you. You can simply take the elevator down to the basement floor which holds the new club Voodoo, which just had its grand opeing march 12, 2011. (Taking the elevator also lets you skip out on the cover charged at Voodoo front door;) The bar has a chill atmosphere to it that is nice for a quick beer after the workday in the middle of the week or meeting friends on a weekend night.
