Second Chance Building Materials Center at 15th and Grove in downtown Boise is one of the most unique places to shop for home remodeling needs in Boise and the surrounding area. While it might appear to be modeled after several recycling centers throughout the United States, this company is locally based and serves our community. All money raised returns to Boise’s economy. Just a facet of the Supportive Housing and Innovation Partnerships (SHIP), Second Chance specializes in recycling building materials. Whether you are remodeling a historic home, and in need of some light fixtures, or building a new home and looking for a special piece or discounted cabinetry, Second Chance is the first place you should stop. You might also find lumber, doors, windows, cabinets, bathroom fixtures, and so much more. Products change frequently, as more donations are made. A list of acceptable donations can be found on their website. So, not only are you getting great products for less than you would pay in retail home improvement stores, you are also helping Boiseans while you shop. It’s a win-win for everyone! Be sure to check out the Reuse Gallery, to see what some artists have made out of materials from the center. Pieces are then available for sale through private online auction. From their website: “(SHIP) is dedicated to improving our community and our environment. In addition to diverting building re-usable materials from the landfill at Second Chance Building Materials Center we work with other local organizations and non-profits to make our community a safer and better place to live.” How could you argue with such logic? Second Chance has already won several accolades in its few short years. In 2006, it was one of five to win Boise’s 2006 annual EnviroGuard Award. Also in the same year, Second Chance was awarded the Progressive Business of the Year Award by United Vision of Idaho. Take a chance, go green, help our local community and shop at Second Chance Building Materials Center today!
