The town of Boone is located atop the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. It is known for being the home of Appalachian State University, and for being a beautiful, scenic area for outdoor activities. It is in Watagua County and located off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Boone was incorporated in 1872 and has a population of around 18,000 inhabitants. The town was named after the famous American pioneer and explorer Daniel Boone. It has the highest elevation (3,300 feet) of any town of its size east of the Mississippi River. Boone has moderate temperatures, usually around 76 degrees or lower, so it is great for outdoor activities during the summer. Winters are harsh, however, with a lot of sleet and snow.

Boone is popular for skiing, snowboarding, hiking, swimming, kayaking, horseback riding and more! Boone has been acknowledged by travel journalists for being an "ultimate outdoor adventure destination" in the Southeast. Boone has that "small town" feel, yet plenty of activities for a large variety of people (http://www.townofboone.net/).

Boone is known for the "Miracle Mile" of food leading up to Appalachian State's campus. This street includes a myriad of restaurants, including Cracker Barrel, iHop, and numerous fast food chains. This area is especially popular for university students due to its accessibility and inexpensive options.

King Street is another popular destination full of shops, eateries, ice cream parlors, a mass general store, an antique store, and more! People often gather to shop, eat, and play instruments around King Street. There is also an art gallery on King Street that provides insight into the town's history and culture through pottery, jewelry, home décor, metal animals, and more

In 2012, Boone was named one of the 10 best places to retire in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boone,_North_Carolina).
