History:

Boulder Public Library Main Info page.

The Boulder Public Library is the public library of Boulder, Colorado. The main branch and the Carnegie Branch Library for Local History are located in downtown Boulder, while the George Reynolds and Meadows Branches are in South Boulder.

The Boulder Public Library was originally housed in the Carnegie Library on Pine Street, built in 1906, before moving to its present location on Canyon Boulevard in 1961.

The boulder public library is located in a very nice part of boulder only a few miles away from downtown. There is a creek that runs on the right side of the library and the location was chosen because of its nice features and on the placement of the the library. Boulder public library was moved to the canyon location in 1961 because of other things that were not working with the old location, people lived the canyon location a lot better because it gives the better access to the community and it is alot easier for people to get to when they are near the downtown area and there is also the local bus route the stops near the library so it makes it easy for people to get there when they don't have a car or just want to take local transpiration.  It is a two-story building of 23,800 square feet, with sculpture galleries, reading rooms, gathering spaces, video viewing rooms, and music listening rooms. The final cost of the building was $486,437.19. The library was dedicated on November 12th, 1961.

There are many rules at the Boulder public library and this is a list of all the rules they have to be able to use the books and be able to use the local library:

  • All patrons entering the library must keep voices and conversation low.
  • Cell phones must be taken outside the building.
  • Due to the nature of our collection, children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  • Materials may not be borrowed or checked out.
  • Backpacks and briefcases are not allowed in the stacks. Please place them on the chair next to you or on the floor.
  • If the weather is inclement, please place wet coats on the coat track so as to not damage our materials.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the archive. Leave any food or drink in the entryway.
  • Photographs may not be photographed or scanned, with the exception of the City of Boulder collections 511 and 780 as well as the collection of photographs on the Boulder Assessor’s cards.

As you can tell there are many things they are strict about and they take this rules very seriously.

This is inside the main library after they did the renovation to it in 2014.

Overall the Boulder public library is a great place and it represents something much bigger then just a place where books are this is a place for everyone and people can go hang out there or near the creek over the years and it will always be there.
