Colleges & Universities add richness to life in Buffalo, which is home to a wide range of institutions of higher education, making higher education one of the most important resources to the regional economy. Erie County is home to four public institutions that are part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and eleven private institutions. The University at Buffalo is the largest of the higher education institutions in the region with a student population in fall 2008 of over 28,000.
