Located west of Buffalo, Lake Erie is one of the Great Lakes and the engine of our famous Lake Effect Snow. The lake is bordered by Canada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Michigan.

"The lake is named after the Erie tribe of Native Americans who lived along its southern shore. ... Lake Erie is the fourth largest lake (by surface area) of the five Great Lakes, and the tenth largest globally. It is the southernmost, shallowest, and smallest by volume of the Great Lakes." 1
