Bougainvillea

Bougainvillea (pronounced /ˌbuːɡɨnˈvɪliə/) can be found all over Camarillo. It is the official city flower. It is a type of flowering plant native to South America. There are at least 4 different species of bougainvillea. The plant was discovered by French botanist, Philibert Commerçon in 1768.

Bougainvillea is a thorny vine growing anywhere from 3 to 60 feet in length. The plant grows rapidly and will cover anything in its path. The bougainvillea flower is relatively small and white, but each cluster of flowers is surrounded by several leaves in pink, magenta, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow.

Bougainvilleas are generally hardy plants that require little care, and can be grown easily. This plant does best in warm climates.
