CaryCitizen is an online news source founded in July 2009. It is part of a new, community-based model for news and information called hyperlocal journalism.  CaryCitizen publishes six days a week, approximately 70 stories per month. The focus is on The focus is on community events, business, arts, sports, recreation and accomplishments.  Readers can view the publication on the web, subscribe via email or follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Fellow2011 Knight Foundation Fellow

CaryCitizen was awarded ​a 2011 Knight Foundation Fellowship for its work in developing the hyperlocal journalism business model.

In addition, the publication has received extensive coverage in Columbia Journalism Review.

CaryCitizen is an accredited news source for Google, Yahoo and Bing. The publication is also accredited by the USSF (Carolina RailHawks), NHL (Carolina Hurricanes), NFL (Carolina Panthers), MLB (USA Baseball) and the NCHSAA (North Carolina High School Athletic Association). 

Founders

The founders of CaryCitizen are Hal Goodtree (Publisher), Lindsey Chester (Associate Publisher), Matt Young (Managing Editor) and Leslie Huffman (Editor-At-Large).
