Cha House

Cha House is a Taiwanese cafe located on West Franklin Street and was founded by Julia Chiu and her sister, who grew up working at their parents’ noodle restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan. Cha House opened in April of 2018 and is described on its website as a “modern-day, Asian-style tea house.”

During a trip to Chapel Hill, Chiu and her sister realized it was the perfect town for a restaurant to introduce their love for the many presentations of tea. They set out to create a cafe where customers could enjoy a variety of teas and snacks in a casual atmosphere.

“I want to view all of the customers as my friends and my family,” Chiu said.

The restaurant’s menu consists of over house-made 40 drinks:

  • Milk Teas

  • Fruit Teas

  • Cream Cheese Capped Teas

  • Cold-Brew Teas

  • Specialty Drinks, such as:

    • Strawberry Matcha Latte

    • Orange-infused Green Tea

    • Crafted Milk Limeade

    • Dragon Fruit Smoothie

The menu also includes a variety of authentic Taiwanese snacks:

  • Popcorn Chicken

  • Pork Chop Plate

  • Tea Stew Pork

  • Green Onion Pancake

  • Cheesecake

Inspired by the tastes of Taiwan, Cha House receives their loose leaf teas from tea plantations on Taiwan’s high mountain ranges. The tea’s exposure to cooler temperatures makes its taste less bitter and more rich.

The address of Cha House is 318 W. Franklin St., Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Cha House is open Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
