Overview

Spanky's Restaurant & Bar, a popular spot for Chapel Hill locals and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students alike, is known for its sweeping menu as well as its original pieces of art hung above tables and behind the bar.

Located on Franklin Street, Spanky's doubles as a family style restaurant and a trendy bar. Even some local celebrities are drawn by its expansive menu and fun atmosphere. Customers will see many different caricatures of well-known figures throughout the restaurant, another one of the restaurant's main attractions.

History

Founded in 1977, the restaurant strives to partner good food with affordable pricing. It also keeps a strong focus on sustainability. In 2007, it was named "Sustainable Business of the Year" and it is the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) restaurant in North Carolina.

Spanky's management team is made up of employees who have worked with the group for many years. The general manager and the floor and bar manager are both former UNC-CH students who fell in love with the establishment.

About the Menu

Spanky's menu sweeps many different categories, depending whether one goes for brunch, lunch, or dinner. It has extremely popular starters, sandwiches, salads, and entrées.. The most famous items on the menu are the hamburgers, brown sugar baby back ribs, and barbecue. They also keep things family friendly with a kids menu .
