What do you know about Charlotte Hornets (NBA)?

The Charlotte Hornets franchise is in its 26th season. Their first game ever took place on November 4, 1988 against the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Charlotte Coliseum. The Hornets would go on to lose that game 133-93 and not successfully win a game until November 8 of that same season against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Hornets first season did not go as well as planned finishing with a 20-62 record in their division. Kelly Tripucka, a small forward for the Charlotte Hornets, led his team in points per game by averaging 22.6.

After three straight seasons of finishing in last place in their division, the Hornets drafted the number one overall pick in the 1991-1992 season. The pick was used to select Larry Johnson, a forward from UNLV. This season was an improvement as the Hornets tied for sixth place and Johnson would go on to win rookie of the year. He averaged 19.2 points per game and 11 rebounds per game as a rookie.

The very next season, the Hornets received the second overall pick in the draft. They used this pick to select Alonzo Mourning, a center from Georgetown. With new additions to the team, the Hornets were the best they have ever been. The Charlotte Hornets would go on to finish with a 44-38 record and finishing in third place. This is the best record and position they have had since becoming a franchise.

The Hornets seen some success in their  first playoff appearance. Their first opponents would be the Boston Celtics. The Hornets would go on to win this series against the more experienced Celtics in dramatic fashion. The next series was against the New York Knicks who would defeat the Charlotte Hornets in five games.
