Located in Uptown Charlotte, N.C., the 150,000-square-foot NASCAR Hall of Fame is an interactive, entertainment attraction honoring the history and heritage of NASCAR. The venue, designed to educate and entertain race fans and non-fans alike, opened May 11, 2010.http://www.nascarhall.com/about

Also on the property is a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant and the NASCAR Hall of Fame Gear Shop.  The goal of the facility is to honor NASCAR icons and create an enduring tribute to the drivers, crew members, team owners and others that have impacted the sport in the past, present and future.

The City of Charlotte beat out four other cities to win the race for the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The other four cities in competition for the venue were Atlanta, Daytona Beach, Kansas City and Richmond. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/money/economy/2005-05-26-nascar-cover_x.htm

Charlotte won the right to build the venue in 2006, beating out fellow finalists: Atlanta and Daytona Beach.

The inaugural class for the NASCAR Hall of Fame was inducted the day after the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race in 2010 and featured five inductees. The City of Charlotte was responsible for the construction of the building and is the owner of the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
