Graceland Cemetery (4001 N. Clark) is a large, Victorian-era cemetery located in Uptown. A pastoral landscaped park with plenty of space for picnics, it’s surrounded by iron spear fencing and was designed by Ossian Cole Simonds. Many of the tombs have significant architectural interest, for example the Getty Tomb, the Martin Ryerson Mausoleum, and the Schoenhofen Pyramid Mausoleum. Industrialist George Pullman was buried here too, at night underneath steel and concrete, so that no one could dig up the body and disrespect it. Other people buried here include Marshall Field, Rober Ebert, Daniel Burnham, Mary Hastings Bradley, William Hulbert, Fazulur Khan, Jack Johnson, Mies van der Rohe, Kate Warne, and Louis Sullivan.
