It had been claimed popularly that Chico consumes 1% of all the beer in California. However, the Chico News and Review ran a story on Chico's urban legends back on November 8, 2001. At that time Steve Mosher, the general sales manager for Stash Distributing reported that "there's no more beer sold [in Chico] than anywhere else."
Some other beer related Chico facts:
- Keystone was first introduced in Chico as a test market.
- Sierra Nevada Brewery is the tenth largest brewery in the nation.
- Butte Creek Brewing Company is located at West Second Street and Cedar.
- CSU Chico got a grant from the US Department of Education to run a campaign that attempts to convince students to cut down on their drinking. This was the Did You Know campaign.
