Chico is the home to numerous and diverse commercial enterprises popularly called businesses. The Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization whose task it is to further the interests of the business community. The primary commercial area of the city is Downtown which is host to many locally owned businesses, some of which have been in business for many years. The Downtown Chico Business Association represents the interests of the downtown businesses to the community.
The City of Chico has designated in the General Plan that certain areas are Commercial zones and are appropriate places for commercial uses. There are many types of commercial uses which are permitted in the commercial zones of the city.
