Chico State is organized into seven Colleges, two Interdisciplinary Units and five Schools. These are each broad administrative units which oversee the budget and activities of the departments designated to them. Each college has a dean who directs the use of the budget of the particular college. The university is further organized into departments, centers and institutes, programs and other offices.
Each of the university's 154 majors and 53 graduate programs belong to one of the following colleges.
- College of Agriculture
- College of Behavioral and Social Sciences
- College of Business
- College of Communication and Education
- College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management Technology
- College of Humanities and Fine Arts
- College of Natural Sciences
There are also two Interdisciplinary Units
- School of Undergraduate Education and General Studies
- School of Graduate, International, and Interdisciplinary Studies
In addition, to the seven colleges, and two interdisciplinary units, there are also six professional Schools. These are also administrative units each under the direction of a director.
