Ed McLaughlin has been a Chico resident since 19761, and is a longtime cycling advocate. He is the organizer behind the Wildflower Century ride, which draws thousands of riders from all over the region, and is the head of the Chico VELO cycling club. Ed was a driving force behind the cycling-related improvements to Chico, including the creation of many bike paths through the area. He sits on the board of the Downtown Chico Business Association.

Accident

On December 21, 2007, Ed collided with a bollard in Bidwell Park while cycling with a small group. He suffered a major spinal chord injury and was transported to Enloe Medical Center where he was subsequently airlifted to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
