Chico Fire Department Station 6 is the only fire station located west of the Union Pacific railroad in Chico. The station houses Engine 6 (it's primary apparatus), OES Engine 297 (a state-assigned engine that may be sent to fire or rescue incidents throughout the state) as well as Utility 6 (designed to pull the fire scene investigation trailer). The current station is only a temporary facility that the city is leasing, and a new station is being designed at the crossing of W 8th Ave and Highway 32, adjacent to both Emma Wilson School and Oak Way Park. Station 6 ran 1,725 calls during 2007.
