Gen Kai is a Japanese restaurant that used to be located in the Almond Orchard in North Chico. They are now at 605 Mangrove Ave. They have a large menu that includes both sushi and other dishes (teriyaki, tempura, udon, katsu, etc). In addition to dinner, Gen Kai has a full bar with many brands of Sake, including flavored varieties (such as Raspberry). Happy hour is Tuesday-Friday 5:30-6:30. Their sushi prices are about on par with other establishments in Chico; expect to pay $5-9 for rolls with meat or roughly $4 for vegetarian maki sushi. They serve Coca-Cola brand sodas.

Take-out and dine-in options are both available. There is seating at the sushi bar, Japanese-style seating, and traditional seating available. Reservations are accepted for groups of six or more. Note that they are only open during dinner hours.
