La Familia has been called one of Chico's more authentic Mexican restaurants. This family owned establishment was located in a small hole in the wall place on in the Safeway shopping center on Nord in West Chico, and was easily overlooked. Recently it moved into a larger location in the same center, opening up more space for customers.

The food is moderately priced (in the $7-8 range for a lunch combo) and filling. They have vegetarian options, and many things could likely be made vegetarian by request, as they are incredibly accommodating with special requests. The chips and salsa are fresh and tasty. If you like spicier salsa, ask for it and your wish shall be fulfilled. The staff is incredibly friendly, and will often remember regular guests.
