Little League is a great opportunity for kids in Chico to get to play baseball. There are three little league organizations in Chico, all of which are a part of California District 47 Little League. Many nearby communities' little league organizations are also a part of this district, including Durham, Paradise, and Gridley. The leagues in Chico are:
Many cities choose not to participate in "Little League" since the national organization focuses primarily on the playoffs and not the regular season. The regular season is basically over in June just as summer vacation is starting; leaving many of the players with no organized baseball for the balance of the season. To fit the entire season in, pre-season starts in February, far too rainy and cold for much of the country.
Cities are now organizing youth baseball (and softball) leagues where you actually play ball all through the summer. The focus is to play ball, have fun and give young people something to do during the summer months. Little League falls sadly short in this endeavor.
