Although both Chico State and Butte College are usually out of session by the end of May, many students are still in the area to partake in the events with the locals. Some of the events include:
- As would be expected, memorial ceremonies are held, such as by the VFW at the Chico Cemetery
- Silver Dollar Fair is held at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds every year from the Wednesday beforehand through Memorial Day
- People take a leisurely tubing ride down the Sacramento River (this also happens on Labor Day and any other excuse one can find during the hot summer)
