Movies 10 was a movie theater located in South Chico across the street from Chico Mall that was owned by Cinemark. At the time that it was built, it was the largest multiplex in Chico, with ten screens. Most movies that played in town opened and had their entire run at Movies 10. Only the biggest blockbuster films played at El Rey Theater or Senator Theater and eventually would be transferred over to Movies 10 as popularity waned and new films debuted. The cinema remained popular until Cinemark 14 was built in the North Valley Plaza at the beginning of the century, and had to close its doors in 2000. Cinemark originally built movie theaters under the name of "Movies" but then switched to building movie theaters called Tinseltown with a decor featuring star patterns. In 1999, Cinemark began opening theaters under the name Cinemark with a retro art deco decor. The property was bought by Calvary Chapel of Chico shortly thereafter, and has been converted to a church.
