Shapiro Pool is one of two public pools in Chico (along with Pleasant Valley Pool). It is open to the public seasonally from June to August for swim lessons, lap swimming, and open swimming. It is also used year-round by various groups in town. Because it is adjacent to Chico Junior High School, their physical education courses take place there. Additionally, the Chico State Kinesiology Department and the Aqua Jets use the pool for training.

Per CARD's website, "As of early 2016, Shapiro pool is non-operational until further notice. Built in 1956, the pool needs significant renovations to meet modern standards, and funding isn’t available. We’ll transfer as much swim programming as possible to Pleasant Valley pool."
