Sigma Omega Phi manifested its roots on April 26, 1990. On this exceptional day, four phenomenal women came together to create a sisterhood that bonds women of every race, class, and creed by opening minds through culture, education and unity. During this arduous journey, twelve aspiring women who also shared these ideals, became part of this family and helped further develop the fundamentals of our distinguished organization.

The road was long and rocky, yet with the determination and trust, each sister of Sigma Omega Phi held within them, their goal was accomplished. On November 28, 1990, Sigma Omega Phi Multicultural Sorority was officially recognized on the CSU, Chico campus. Since this date, our family has grown to five other chapters at CSU Fresno, CSU Sacramento, San Jose State University, Stanislaus State, and The National Hispanic University. We are Sigma Omega Phi Multicultural Sorority Inc.

OPENING MINDS THROUGH CULTURE, EDUCATION, AND UNITY

Our Goals:

  • Culture - As an organization we strive to enlighten women to respect, admire, and celebrate our differences. We also encourage keeping sight of our own individual culture and heritage.
  • Education - We promote and recruit students into an institution of higher learning. Our main interest and focus is to increase the graduation population.
  • Unity - we establish a strong bond through our fundamentals: determination, sisterhood, and trust.
