LOCAL HISTORY
Sigma Pi here at CSU Chico has a rich and complex history. In 1987, a local fraternity called Chi Psi Omega was formed. Shortly thereafter, in December of 1988, Chi Psi Omega became a chapter of Pi Kappa Phi National Fraternity.
The Zeta Lambda chapter of Pi Kappa Phi lost its charter after an unfortunate incident in the fall of 2000. A small group of the members decided to form a new fraternity and on March 31, 2001, Phi Nu Chi was born.
Phi Nu Chi made incredible progress and grew from almost nothing to a top fraternity at Chico State in only 2 years. Holding their own in sports, actively participating in philanthropies, and holding socials with national sororities led Phi Nu Chi to the next level: becoming part of a national fraternity.
On April 8, 2003 twenty four Phi Nu Chi officially became colonized by Sigma Pi. By continuing their success and striving for excellence, Sigma Pi at Chico State planned to be officially chartered by Sigma Pi in the fall of 2003.
Neccessary actions were taken quickly on the road to Chartering. The colony embarked on the Golden Quest, completing it in the fastest record time in all of Sigma Pi national history. Sigma Pi, Theta Mu Chapter officially became Chartered on November 15, 2003.
