Silver Dollar Fairgrounds is home to the annual Silver Dollar Fair every Memorial Day weekend. In addition, it is home to the Silver Dollar Speedway at which auto races take place. Various other community events are held on the grounds as well. It formerly shared a site with the now departed Chico Fun World in the 1980s.

The site occupies 63 acres, including the raceway track (which can double as a concert venue), exhibition buildings, the Cassady Pavilion, and livestock barns. In addition, they have several acres of parking to accommodate the large number of visitors to the most popular events.

In June and July of 2008, the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds were used as an Incident Command Post (ICP) for the Butte Lightning Complex. Over 1600 firefighters descended upon Chico and the fairgrounds to help fight the Rim, West, Sawmill, and Break Neck fires. Portable showers, hand-washing units, a kitchen, and dozens of tents were brought in to construct the fire camp.12
