Student and General Services building under construction. The Student and General Services building at Butte College is currently under construction where the Ivy Hill Lawn once offered its grass and shade. It'll cost to the tune of $23.5 million and is financed by Measure A, a local bond that was passed by voters in 2002.

Construction began on June 23, 2008, and is slated to be completed by opened December 1st, 2009. It is designed to meet LEED (Leader in Energy and Environmental Design) criteria and seeks to achieve Gold Certification. By the end of construction, it'll boast 59646 square feet to house the various administrative and student services of Butte College.1

The construction caused a few inconveniences since it blocks one of the main campus thoroughfares that went from the campus center straight to the Business Education building and on to parking. Construction also destroyed a grassy area at the top of Ivy Hill Lawn where students used to wait for the buses. This was because a portion needed to be excavated in order to fit the building. Eventually the area atop the old Ivy Hill Lawn will provide access to the building using a small bridge. The lawn adjacent to the Campus Center at the bus stop was also torn up by construction (presumably utilities installation for the new building). It has since been replanted with grass.
