The Bidwell Bump is the annual mountain bike race event held in the Fall in Upper Bidwell Park of Chico. The event offers five race races; The XC - 16 miles of extremely technical climbs and descents with approximately 2000' of climbing up and down both sides of Big Chico Creek Canyon.The SD - 5 long miles of downhill with some pedaling. The AMC - XC & SD combined. The Sport Bump - Approximately 8 miles of singletrack and doubletrack with some technical features in Upper Bidwell Park. The Beginner Bump - Approximately 5.7 miles of singletrack and doubletrack with some technical features in Upper Bidwell Park. The Kid's Race - Ages 2 years and up compete in 1 of 3 distances ranging from a 100 yd dash to 2 miles depending on the age category. The Bidwell Bump was first held in August 1976. It was a simple 'home grown' race announced in the "Clunker Craziness" flyer published by Chuck "Bodfish" Elliot in Chico, Ca. The first race attracted twelve participants, ten men and two women. Although taking a hiatus for several years, the event returned in 2009 and has been held every year since then. For more information, follow the Bidwell Bump Facebook page.
