Theodore Schwein (1871-1948) was a member of the Chico Board of Trustees 1903-1907, 1911-1915. You can see his his name "Theo. Schwein" on a brass dedication plaque in the entry to the historic City building on the corner of 5th and Main Street. He was also the original owner of the Theodore Schwein Home. Theo Schwein worked in the family butcher shop "Junction Meat Market" and was also a volunteer firefighter. He was a member of Fire Engine Co. No. 2 which was located where the Chico City Council Chambers stands now. The Hose Team secured a State record in May 1897.

One of four children of Chico pioneers Matt and Anna Schwein, Theodore Schwein was married to Ruth Jane Camper, a descendant of Chico pioneer Henry Wax Camper, and they had two children. Theodore Schwein. Jr. (called "Ted") was a school teacher in Portola, Live Oak, and Richmond before retiring to Lake Almanor. He was a woodworker and spent much of his time skiing at Lassen Volcanic National Park and taking scout troops into Humbug Valley. He was a fine fisherman, too! Theodore and Jane's other child, Oliver, only survived for 1 year and 8 months. Oliver, Ted, Theo and Ruth Jane Schwein are all buried in the Chico Cemetery.
