The city of Chico is pretty much flat terrain. This makes surface transportation by various means very convienent relative to other cities. Chico is a bronze level Bicycle-friendly community as designated by the League of American Bicyclists. Chico was also named "America's Best Bike Town" by Bicycle magazine in 1997.
Major highways
California State Route 99 and California State Route 32 intersect in Chico. There is a Park and Ride parking lot at this junction provided by CalTrans. Call 511 for more information.
Business 99 is the name of the former Highway 99E which used to flow through downtown Chico and marked the East/West dividing line in city street names. The path of Business 99 is better known by the name of its modern day segments: Park Avenue, Oroville Avenue, Main Street & Broadway , and The Esplanade.

Bus
The B-Line (Butte Regional Transit) serves the Chico Urban area with eight routes operating Monday through Saturday and two shuttle routes for Chico State students during the academic year. The Chico Clipper serves the Chico urban area with nine modified vans providing transportation for the elderly and the mobility impaired seven days a week. The transit center in Chico is located at Second and Salem Streets. Regularly scheduled trips are available to Paradise and Oroville also. Glenn Ride is a bus service from Glenn County which makes several stops within Chico, including at the transit center and the Amtrak Station.
The Greyhound bus station is located at the Amtrak Station at Fifth and Orange Streets. See Greyhound website for detailed information.
Train
Amtrak operates the Amtrak Station at 450 Orange Street near Fifth and Orange Streets for the Coast Starlight service on this primary Union Pacific Railroad corridor. The terminal is partially wheelchair accessible, has an enclosed waiting area, public restrooms, public payphones, free short-term and long-term parking. Trains run between Seattle and Los Angeles with a northbound, and a southbound train departing from the station daily. Taxi
There are at least eight taxi companies in Chico: Yellow Cab, Liberty Cab, Chico Independent Taxi, Checkers Taxi, Eco Cab, Taxi Dave, Premier Taxi, and Black and White Taxi.
Shuttles
- The North Valley Shuttle has five scheduled runs daily to Sacramento International Airport leaving from Jack's Restaurant at Sixth and Main Streets.

Pedicabs
Pedicabs are human-powered taxis with a bench at the rear where two additional people can sit. They tend to operate when the weather is warmer — from Spring to late Fall — in the Downtown area.
Air
The Chico Municipal Airport has daily non-stop flights to San Francisco International through United Airlines' United Express service operated by SkyWest. The airport is located at 150 Airpark Blvd north of the city limits.
Ranchaero Airport is a private airport at the end of Oak Park Avenue, and is surrounded by orchards on the west edge of town.

Bicycle
Wheeled Migration organizes multi-day experiential bicycle tours from Chico and throughout northern California. Chico Velo is one of Chico's many active cycling clubs; they organize many Chico area rides, including the Wildflower Century.
