The mission of Legal Services of Northern California is to provide quality legal services to empower the poor to identify and defeat the causes and effects of poverty within their community efficiently utilizing all available resources.

Legal Services of Northern California - Butte Regional Office assists low income people with housing problems (including unlawful detainers, 3-day, 30-day and 60-day notices, habitability problems, lockouts and utility issues) and public benefits (including CalWorks, TANF, Food Stamps, Medi-Cal and CMSP). In addition they have a senior program for people 60+ that assists with these issues plus consumer problems and estate planning. This office serves the counties of Butte, Glenn, Plumas and Tehama (plus Colusa County for seniors).

The building which Legal Services occupies is the Nottleman House also called the Legal Aid Building. It is a house in the South Campus Neighborhood which was listed in the National Register of Historic Places as contributing to the South Campus Historic District in 1991.
