Dr. Preston L. Williams Jr. Elementary school is part of the Urbana School District 116 and serves grades K through 5.  It was built in 1965 and the school colors are red, white, and blue. The school is one of two elementary schools in the district that is home to the Spanish Dual Language program.  In the 2015-2016 school year, the former Prairie Elementary School was renamed Dr. Preston L. Williams Jr. Elementary School.  Dr. Williams was the District's first African-American Superintendent and a long-time #116 teacher, coach, and administrator.  Dr. Williams Elementary, along with Urbana Early Childhood School are situated on the Prairie Campus.
