Francis and Abbie Solon House, c. 1869
If you have been in town for a couple weeks, due to the size of Chambana, you're sure to have passed this house, across the street from Champaign Public Library. It is currently for sale, and like many houses in town it has a Victorian feel that makes one wonder about its history. According to PACA, the house was built in 1867 and went through a number of rich farmers' hands before being donated for preservation in 2005. The house is on the market for $235,000. I could not find any photos of the interior, but I hear they are around.
A local also wrote up a nice blog piece about the Solon family called Househunting Mom: The Dream House.
