Scott Park contains a rain garden that was developed to help with local flooding. The rain garden filters and uses portions of this water before it reaches Boneyard Creek.

The Champaign Park District and City of Champaign partnered to create a natural solution to local flooding problems while beautifying Scott Park. The rain garden captures and cleanses floodwater and snowmelt from the surrounding neighborhood, intercepting the water before it runs into the Boneyard Creek. The rain and snowmelt temporarily stored in the rain garden recharge groundwater, hydrate the native, water-loving plants, and evaporate into the air. As a result of this project, the Boneyard Creek is cleaner and healthier.
