Owner Allen Strong Silvercreek opened in 1990 in response to the overwhelming success of the Courier Cafe and patron requests for a second location. While looking for a space in Champaign to expand The Courier, Strong attended an auction in the closed Art Floral building and was struck with the possibility of the space, and was inspired to build a high quality restaurant in Urbana.
Silvercreek offers seasonal menus with fresh ingredients. The menus are discussed and planned each season and the staff are all able to taste and comment on the dishes before they are added. Silvercreek will soon offer tasting dinners to customers who will be able to recommend the addition of new dishes.
Silvercreek offers a more formal ambiance than The Courier. The decadent brunch alone is enough to draw a crowd, but the delicious lunches and dinners often bring customers back each week. Silvercreek is also an excellent space to host an event or meet for evening drinks. Music events are often held in the greenhouse attached to the restaurant on Friday nights.
Silvercreek is a wonderfully classic and unique restaurant in downtown Urbana, and is a local favorite!
