History

The Undergraduate Library, often referred to as the UGL and known for its underground structure, is situated between the Main Library and the Morrow Plots. It is connected by an underground tunnel to the Main Library but also has its own plaza entrance to the west of the Morrow Plots.

The Undergraduate Library, opened in 1969, was built underground in order not to shade the Morrow Plots but features a courtyard that provides natural light to the library. This also provided an open area behind Foellinger Auditorium, which was important to the campus master plan of its age.

Collections and Services

The Undergraduate Library features an Espresso Royalle, group rooms, loanable technology, book stacks, a large graphic novel collection, course reserves, a circulating media collection, a video game room complete with gaming equipment, reference services, library instruction, access to software including GIS and Adobe programs, an audio booth, and a green screen room. The Writer's Workshop is based in the Undergraduate Library and the Career Center also hosts office hours there. Loanable technology includes everything from calculators to Nikon DSLR cameras which anyone with an I-Card can borrow for free. Patrons of the Undergraduate Library can also borrow video games, DVDs, and VHS tapes. The Undergraduate Library has a VHS player and DVD and blue ray players.

The Undergraduate Library also boasts a video game archive which can be used for research purposes but is not open for casual viewing.

Undergraduate Library collections may be used by the public through the use of courtesy cards. It also offers cash printing services.
