Gorham's Pond is an inlet of the Long Island Sound, but becomes separate from the sound by a small waterfall during low tide. The pond occasionally freezes over enough to allow ice skating in the winter. Preservation of the pond and its environment is supported byFriends of Gorham's Pond.
