- Engineering II (later called Kemper Hall) opens. Engineering students wander into the maze-like building with two second floors, one above the other, the oxymoronically very large microfabrication facility (at the time, the largest such lab on the west coast), a dungeon, a five story high plunge where an elevator was wont to be, and psychedelic floor patterns.
