Alice J. Gonzales is a Rocklin resident who has held several positions within the state government. She was appointed Director of the California Department of Aging by Governor Deukmejian in 1983. From 1990 until 1998, she was Director of the state's Employment Development Department, and she also served on the UC Board of Regents. She had a particular interest in using her posts to help the disadvantaged and impoverished. As a regent, she also focused greatly on improving the university's medical programs and hospitals. In recognition of her job dedication and generous nature, she was awarded the UC Davis Medal on May 20, 2002.
