Many Davis residents do not follow proper procedure when disposing of batteries. Regardless if it is a traditional alkaline battery, a modern lithium battery, or any rechargeable battery, the disposal procedure is the same. This is an important part of following the city goal of Zero Waste.
Do NOT throw batteries in the trash can. The following locations in Davis accept battery drop-offs of all kinds:
If it is a broken battery, instead take it to the Yolo County Central Landfill hazardous waste drop-off.
Seniors (65+) or disabled residents can call to schedule a free pick up of batteries and other hazardous waste at (530) 666-8856.
Technically, you are supposed to put each battery in a plastic bag or cover the ends with duct tape.
