Best Classes To Take Your last Quarter...or so I've heard

  • ABT 49 Tractor Driving: Learn what the implements are, and how to drive gas and diesel tractors. You'll feel speedy at four miles per hour.

    • I've heard this class gets you dirty and oily, but I personally haven't taken it. -AlexPomeranz
  • ATM 10 Severe Weather - Interesting and pretty easy. Some busy work and homework, but easy to get an A.
  • AMR 49 Organic Crop Production Practices - Learn about sustainable agriculture and work in the Market Garden.
  • ANT 1 Human Evolutionary Biology
  • ARE 112 - Business Organization with Butler. Teaches you how to manage people, lecture is independent from the book but both are extraordinarily interesting. Butler is one of the best teachers I have had yet.
  • COM 5F Fairy Tales, Fables and Parables
  • DES 1 - Design and Visual Culture w/ Dr. Wagner or House. Interesting, but lots of memorization.
  • English 5F: Writing Fiction, Read and write short stories in a small classroom. Lots of fun.
  • Economics 1A or 1B - Online homework that is due at the end of each week. However, those assignments are very easy and take only 20 minutes or so. Other than that work, it is an easy B/B+ for sleeping, A-/A for trying harder. Your advisors at freshman advising were lying out their teeth when they said either of these classes were difficult. Prof. Hoynes is excellent for 1A.
  • ECS 15 - Intro to Computer (No More Available)
    • Take it with Professor Puketza. Easiest class I've ever taken in my college life. 4 units, it's two diff ge's one of which is writing -> Longest paper was 4 pages long, and graded on "trying." I got a 99.6% in the class without ever going to the lab (did it at home in 20 mins instead). He kept offering extra credits to everyone, and if you got a score below 85 on any "lab" , you could redo it -> as long as you turn in a redo you get 80 points minimum. It's practically impossible to fail. For 4 units, writing ge, and compsci ge, well worth it for the A+ on transcript. Also, I'm told you get extra print pages for being enrolled, score!
  • ENG 10 How Things Work
    • Super easy and interesting! Class consisted of an hour lecture and then a student presentation, each students picks a topic discussed that week in the book, like how lasers work or other technological innovations. Quizzes are the same questions from the book. You can skip lectures and still pass with an A. Just don't forget what day you're assigned to do your presentation, it's a big chunk of your grade and is really easy to do.
  • ENT 1 Art, Science, World Insects
  • ESP 198/298 Education for Sustainable Living Program: It's led by students, one of the only such courses on campus. 2. The speakers are all really inspiring and awesome people, and actually make you excited about things to do once you leave college. I actually realized that there is hope for those of us who don't want to just work in a cubicle. 3. It's only 2 hours per week, and there are no tests! -will
  • ETX 10 Intro Environment Toxicology
  • EXB 10 Exercise and Fitness (No More Available)
  • EXB 116 Exercise Biology (Nutrition for Active People) - Take with Dr. Meredith, she is so awesome and really wants everyone to do well. Great class if you're interested in the topic; she makes it very fun and worthwhile to come to class. All lectures are in a reader. Take it P/NP just to ease the pressure; but if you make some effort, you'll get a B.
  • FST 3 Intro to Beer and Brewing: Learn about the production of beer, the difference between lager and ale, the differences between various beer styles, and the health impacts of drinking beer.
  • FST 10 Food, Folklore, and Health
  • GEL 36 - Solar System w/ Professor Osleger. Great teacher, interesting class, easy to get a "B" and with a little extra work an "A". Usually only taught in the spring.
  • HDE 12 Human Sexuality: 3 unit class that wasn't all that difficult, but did have a long paper to write.
  • HIS 111B or C - Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome with Professor Spyridakis. If you are a history major, I believe these are required courses and so you should probably take them prior to your last quarter at UCD, but I recommend these courses to anyone regardless of major. I wasn't a history major and I found them to be so enriching. And Prof. Spyridakis is brilliant and very entertaining. Trust me when I say that it is a very lively class. Register early as I believe there huge waitlists for his classes. At least, this was the case when I took them. ~CurlyGirl26

  • MUS 115 - History of Film Music. Listen to soundtracks of famous films.
  • MIC 10 History of Infectious Diseases
  • NEM 110. Introduction to Nematology (2 units). You will never eat sushi again.
  • PHI 13 Minds, Brains and Computers
  • PLB 001 Plant Biology 1: Professor Marrush is such a nice old man; duties and expectations are unclear at times, but it's all good; you get to plant tons of different vegetables and herbs in your individual 75-foot row
    • I took this when I needed a couple of units, and it was a fun class. You do have to write a large paper (well, you did when I took the class — I assume it hasn't changed). Growing your own crops is fun. If you take it in spring quarter, you can harvest other people's abandoned crops once the class is over and everyone has left for summer. -AlexPomeranz
  • PLP 40 "The Mushroom Class": Learn about the life cycle of Kingdom Fungus, as well as the colonization habits, phenotypic characteristics, and culinary uses for half a dozen gourmet mushroom varieties. Grow regular white buttons, shiitake, maitake, enoki, oyster, and reishi mushrooms. You will keep a journal of each crop's progress and turn it in for credit.
  • PLS 6 Flower Power
    • LOVED this class. You learn about different flowers (tulips, roses, etc.) and flower types (petal number, leaf styles, etc.). 2 short writing assignments (one paragraph each). He has end of lecture "quizzes" to count attendance, usually questions like "which of these images is a daisy", really easy stuff. Book isn't necessary to pass the class. He has guests lecturers come often, such as someone from the cut flower & bouquet industry, and even a skype session with the book's author. One workshop for flower arranging, really interesting! You get to keep a lot of potted flowers in this class, which is awesome. Final consists of student-made questions.
  • PSC 1 Intro to Psychology
  • RST 100 (with Coudert), Issues & Methods. Great class, great instructor, decent amount of writing, but legit for 4 upper div units. 
  • RST 2 Myths, Rituals, Symbolism
  • SAS 4 Water in Popular Culture
  • SAS 030: "Mushroom, Mold, Society"
    Fungi as organisms with which humans interact daily, societal issues arising from these interactions. Fungi in medicine, religion, agriculture, and industry, as well as cultural perceptions of fungi.
  • SAS 042: 'Earth, Water, Science and Song'. 3 Unit class taught by Wendy Silk. You learn about soil science and have small easy quizzes each week. BUT you are also assigned a topic in soil science to write and compose a song about with a group. You then perform these songs in front of the class and possibly in front of a larger population at the end of the quarter as your final. A decent amount of work for a 3 unit class, but it was the most fun I've had during my time at UCD so far!
  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • University Chorus (MUS 144) if you need upper-division units and can sing decently.
