Cinema and Digital Media (CDM) is a new department developed from merging Technocultural Studies (TCS) and Film Studies (FMS) in 2015. Technocultural Studies and Film Studies are no longer accepting new majors. Previously knows as Cinema and Technoculture Studies (CTS).

Undergraduate Program

Lower-division requirements consist of 25 units.

The upper-division requirements consist of 37-38 units.

  • Two (8 units) in Film Study/Theory 
  • Four (16 units) in electives 

Major checklist and courses here. Along with classes listed, look out for CDM 198; those are new/experimental classes. Previous CDM 198 courses include Writing with Pictures, Screenwriting, and "Modding" (modifying vintage video game equipment).

Graduate Program

There are currently plans to also create an MFA + Ph.D. program for Cinema and Digital Media. 

Film Festival 

Every year, for nearly two decades, students have run a film festival hosted at the Varsity Theatre which showcases short film produced by students within this and other programs. The next festival will occur on May 8-9, 2019; 9:30pm-11pm both days. 

ModLab 

The department of Cinema and Digital Media is associated with the UC Davis ModLab which conducts media research and digital humanities. More info
